Purchase of ebooks

ebooks are sold to for your personal and non-commercial use only. The sale of an ebook does not grant you any commercial or promotional use rights in any ebook.

By placing an order through our service you are confirming that you are at least 18 years old and legally capable of entering in to a binding contract.

We must receive payment of the whole of the price for the goods that you order before your order can be accepted and the contract formed. Payment is taken at the point of order. Once we have received payment, we will send you an email to the email addresses you provided at registration to confirm your order. The order confirmation will state your name, the order number and the total price.

Our acceptance of your order will constitute a legally binding contract between us on these terms. Any term sought to be imposed by you in your order will not form part of the contract.

We are entitled to withdraw from any contract in the case of obvious errors or inaccuracies regarding the goods appearing on our website or applications. If an error or inaccuracy is discovered with regards to the advertised price of the goods that you have ordered, we will contact you as soon as possible by email.

This will be to inform you of the correct price of the goods, and to ask you if you wish to continue with the order at the amended price, or to cancel the order altogether.

Pricing of ebooks

ebook prices vary from title to title and from content provider to content provider. For certain ebook publishers, where we operate under an agency arrangement, we act as the publisher’s agent selling ebooks on the publisher’s behalf. In such cases, the publisher determines the price that their ebooks are sold for on our Services.

Value Added Tax (VAT). VAT stands for value added tax, which is charged on services provided by us. In accordance with the laws governing members of the European Union, we are obliged to charge the current VAT rate applicable in the United Kingdom (UK). Therefore VAT on all orders will be charged at the then current UK VAT rate. All prices displayed for the Services are inclusive of VAT.

Payment Methods

We accept payments made with the VISA, MasterCard, and VISA Debit cards or you can pay by using either an eBooks by Sainsbury’s Nectar eVoucher or an eBooks by Sainsbury’s eVoucher in accordance with clauses 17 and 18 respectively of the Terms and Conditions. An eBooks by Sainsbury’s Nectar Evoucher and/ or an eBooks by Sainsbury’s eVoucher can be used as payment for all or part of an order.

Once you have entered your details online through our secure server, you have the option to store the card for use in the future. Subsequent orders can be placed simply by logging into your account using your email address and password and selecting a credit card option from the list of those previously used - you would still have to enter the card's CVV number at this point.

Credit cards that have daily spending limits may prevent the processing of your order. If a transaction has been declined online due to credit issues, please ensure all data is correct and resubmit. If the transaction is not accepted online, you will not be able to use the card for your transaction and should use another payment card.

Security of Payment information

We ensure that SSL encryption is employed to secure your payment information. We will ensure that your payment details are never passed onto a third party without your explicit consent. Please note that in the event of unauthorised use of your card you should notify your card provider in accordance with their own procedures.

Cancellation Policy, Replacements and Refunds

All sales of ebooks are final and non-refundable. Due to the nature of the Services (which means you are given immediate access to the ebook you have just purchased), you will NOT have a right to cancel your order once you have completed your order by clicking on the ‘Pay and place your order’ button on the ‘Review and pay page’ and we have accepted your order.

You are responsible for ensuring that you have carefully checked your order prior to clicking on the ‘Pay and place your order’ button.

In circumstances where a downloaded ebook fails to operate on a fully functioning supported device  our only obligation to you will be, at our option, either to replace the defective ebook (with the same title) or to provide a refund of the amount paid by you for the defective ebook.

You will need to notify us of a defective ebook via ‘Report a problem with this order’ on the order history page within 10 days of purchase.

If we agree a refund the following shall apply:

1.         If an ebook was purchased as part of a promotion only the promotional value that you actually paid will be refunded.

2.         Any part of a payment for a defective ebook you made using a Sainsbury’s eBooks Voucher will be refunded with a Sainsbury’s eBooks Voucher of the same value (not exceeding the original purchase value of the defective ebook).

3.         We reserve the right to reclaim any Nectar points originally awarded in respect of the defective ebook when giving you a refund.

4.         All refunds will be made to the debit or credit card on which the original purchase was made within 30 days of our advising you by email that a refund will be made.

If a refund is refused you will be sent an email giving the reason.


There are rare circumstances in which content may not remain available for re-download. For instance, if the content provider who originally made the content available to us for sale requires us to remove content for re-download for legitimate legal or commercial reasons we may be obligated to stop making it available for re-downloading from your library. Any copies you already have on your computer or devices will not be affected.

International Use

You agree to comply with all applicable laws regarding the transmission of technical data exported from the United Kingdom or the country in which you reside (if different) and with all local laws and rules regarding acceptable use of and conduct on the Internet.

Content may be restricted by territory. Where required, to conclude the purchase of any such restricted products, you will be required to provide a billing address in the relevant territory. You agree not circumvent any territorial restrictions in place on the Service or provide false billing information.
